March 4th…March Forth

Welcome to the month of March, everyone! Spring is around the corner (at least I hope it is). With that, the weather starts to get warmer and flowers start to bloom again. But is that really all that Spring has to offer? Let’s dig a little deeper. If you look at the definition of spring, it means “to grow or develop, to come into existence (usually quickly), and to move as a result of resilience”. I originally wanted to post a blog at the beginning of the month, but then I changed my mind. You see, I specifically chose today to post my blog because when you look at the date, today is the only day that is both a calendar date AND a sentence…March Fourth=March Forth! I like to play with words a lot if you haven’t already figured that out by now and if it’s not puns or lame dad jokes, it’s play on words so bare with me folks. “March Forth” is a call to action, and what better time to take action than right now in this present moment? You see, most people have ideas or thoughts about doing something great but for whatever reason there is some level of anxiety or even fear that holds them back from bringing these ideas to life. Whether it’s waiting for the “perfect time” or mapping out the X’s and O’s or thinking up the most outlandish scenarios about what could possibly go wrong, we all wait so damn long that we think ourselves into a frenzy and then never do anything at all. When I spoke about procrastination in my previous blog, I should have mentioned that not only is procrastination the thief of time and success, but it’s also the thief of peace and--in my own right-- the CEO of fear. Want to know what the cure for fear is? Action. Action is the pure and bona fide cure to all things fear.

To my hoopers, March Madness is upon us! The moment you have all been waiting for but most importantly, the moment you’ve all been working for. In my opinion, one of the best parts about March Madness is when you see a low ranked team come out of the woodwork and beat a high caliber team and even go as far as winning the whole tournament. Why? Because the underdog beat the top dog. David defeated Goliath. Whatever analogies you want to make, a team that on paper had no business even being in the national tournament took it upon themselves to make their mark and win. How? By taking action day in and day out. By repetitiously executing the little things consistently, collectively, and most importantly, aggressively. You see, Rome wasn’t built in a day (how many times have we all heard this one before?);but, if no one decided to take any action, Rome would have never been built at all! It obviously took more than one day to build Rome, but it was the fact that action was taken daily towards building it. No one would ever expect low ranked or unranked teams to go far in the tournament in March, but those people weren’t in the gym when those teams were putting in work back in August and September during preseason. They took it upon themselves to march forth and do the things that needed to be done in order to be in a position to compete in the post season and then ultimately reap the benefits of their preparation. They dared to take aggressive action towards their ultimate goal daily until it came into being. Thoughts become things, but only when you put some action behind it.

So march forth, not just today, but everyday after that. March forth in your growth. March forth in your development. Move as a result of your resilience and grit. Take action towards your goals and be bold in the pursuit of your desires and know that God’s got your back through thick and thin. Forget the haters, the self-proclaimed know-it-all’s, and the naysayers because God is on your side. And if our God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31).
